Steel Beam's 15th season includes world premiere

Steel Beam Theatre in St. Charles announced its 15th season, which showcases contemporary works from the last decade, will conclude with the world premiere of a new comedy by veteran daytime drama writer Richard Culliton.

The season begins Sept. 11 with "Good People," David Lindsay-Abaire's dramedy about a struggling, single mother in Boston who re-connects with her high school boyfriend.

That's followed by "Plaid Tidings" (Nov. 20-Dec. 27). The holiday sequel to Stuart Ross' off-Broadway revue "Forever Plaid" finds the male doo-wop quartet returning from heaven to "spread yuletide joy with holiday hits."

Steel Beam begins 2016 with a revival of Steven Dietz's "Yankee Tavern" (Jan. 15-Feb. 7, 2016), about a mysterious man who unnerves the owners and patrons of a failing New York City tavern with his chilling 9/11 conspiracy theories.

Sarah Ruhl's comedy "The Clean House," about a Brazilian maid and aspiring comedian whose wealthy employers' marriage falls apart, runs Feb. 26 to March 20.

Director Marge Uhlarik-Boller and music director Matt Gruel helm "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee" (April 1-24, 2016), the William Finn-Rebecca Sheinkin musical about six preteens vying for a spelling bee title.

The season concludes with the world premiere of Culliton's comedy "When Not That Good Will Do," about an annual family reunion that goes awry. It runs from May 13 to June 5, 2016.

Performances take place at 111 W. Main Street, St. Charles. The $149 season subscription includes priority seating and invitations to special events. Individual tickets are $28. They're available by phone at (630) 587-8521 or online at steelbeamtheatre.com.
