Orphans of the Storm waiving adoption fees Saturday

Orphans of the Storm, one of the largest animal shelters in the Chicago area, will waive adoption fees - typically $90 - for anyone looking to adopt an adult cat or dog when it participates in the nationwide "Clear the Shelters" day from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 15. The shelter is at 2200 Riverwoods Road in Riverwoods. The pet adoption initiative is presented in partnership with NBC 5 Chicago/WMAQ and Telemundo Chicago/WSNS. Routine medical expenses still apply. All dogs and cats over the age of five months are available for free adoption. Those looking to adopt should bring valid identification with their current address. It is recommended families bring as many members of their family as possible, including other dogs, to ensure the pet they hope to adopt is a good fit.
