Homeless man charged with slashing tires on 17 cars in Aurora

A homeless man has been charged with slashing tires on at least 17 vehicles parked in two downtown Aurora parking lots, police said Tuesday.

Ignacio Torres, 33, was charged with felony criminal damage to property after Aurora police said he slashed 17 tires last week that caused a total of $4,000 in damage.

Police said they saw Torres slash tires on five vehicles in less than a minute around 9 a.m. July 30, in a lot at 142 N. Lincoln Ave. A sixth vehicle with similar damage was found in a lot at 204 Spring St.

Authorities suspect Torres damaged 11 vehicles in the same lots on July 27 and July 29.

He is being held in lieu of $10,000 bond at the Kane County jail.
