Old-school sports and fresh fitness challenges merged for family fun Saturday morning in Naperville during the second annual obstacle race in the city.
During the Varsity Rush race at Frontier Park, competitors ran between obstacles that included elements of basketball, soccer and football as well as tire-flipping, wall-scaling and monkey bar-crossing.
Athletes could choose a 1-mile or 3.1-mile distance and families were encouraged to complete the course together. Some circled the route through the park multiple times, just for fun.
Those who really wanted a challenge tried the Competitive Workout of the Day, which incorporated kettlebell swings, box jumps, burpees and running in a race. The goal was to complete the required repetitions and distances as quickly as possible.
The race ended with "DaWasher," a tunnel draped with fabric from a real car wash.
