Sente helps seniors reclaim assets, cut costs

State Rep. Carol Sente, D-Vernon Hills, helped local seniors cut high utility bills and locate unclaimed property Monday, partnering with the Village of Wheeling to bring the services of the Citizens Utility Board and the Illinois State Treasurer to the Wheeling Pavilion Senior Center.

"As a public servant, one of my top priorities is to stay accessible to residents and help them protect their hard-earned savings," Sente said.

"It was wonderful to speak with so many people who were able to cut their utility bills or locate assets that may have been lost over the years due to changes in address, outdated contact information or other life events."

Sente began the event by providing attendees with a legislative update and then spent time speaking to residents individually as they enjoyed their lunches.

After the luncheon, residents took advantage of free one-on-one consultations from CUB experts aimed at helping them eliminate hidden fees and reduce their gas, phone and electric bills.

Representatives from the Illinois State Treasurer's Unclaimed Property Division were also available to help residents search for lost assets, such as abandoned bank accounts, safe deposit box contents, security deposits, stock dividends and more.
