Lolla fans can avoid traffic-palooza with public transit

Whether it's Florence + the Machine, The Lonely Biscuits, or Metallica that floats your boat, suburban rock fans are advised to take public transit to Lollapalooza.

Metra is adding extra trains and cars as well as tweaking schedules to accommodate crowds heading to the festival that runs Friday through Sunday in Grant Park.

Rock fans can also purchase a $10 three-day pass for the event. It's available from ticket agents and will be sold onboard trains after 9:30 a.m. Friday.

The Chicago Transit Authority also has promised to provide longer trains and more frequent service for festivalgoers. Some Loop buses' routes will be slightly changed because of street closures, the CTA noted.

And, if you're driving into Chicago this weekend, here's where you can't drive:

• Columbus Drive is closed between Monroe Street and Roosevelt Road until 4 p.m. Monday. Lake Shore Drive or State Street are alternates, the Mayor's Office of Emergency Management said.

• Balbo Drive and Jackson Boulevard are closed between Michigan Avenue and Lake Shore Drive.

• Congress Parkway is closed from Michigan to Columbus.
