Geneva teens get ready for big Frisbee tournament

More than 15 teens and young adults gathered in an empty lot in Geneva where Coultrap School used to be to hone their Frisbee skills.

The Geneva Vikings Ultimate Frisbee team was practicing for the Sandblast Beach Ultimate Tournament coming up this weekend at Montrose Beach in Chicago.

"It's kind of like a mix of Frisbee and soccer," says Mike Mayorga, 21, of Geneva.

The team members practiced their throwing skills, accuracy, quickness and catching abilities.

They meet two to three times each week during the summer to keep their game sharp.

This is the eighth year that Geneva has had an Ultimate Frisbee team at the high school level and there was talk about adding a team for middle school students.

While Ultimate Frisbee isn't a sanctioned IHSA sport, they do play games against groups from other schools.
