Grayslake baseball history

The Grayslake Historical Society will host a program Wednesday, Aug. 5, at 7 p.m. about the history of baseball in Grayslake in conjunction with the exhibit "Sox vs. Cubs: The Chicago Civil Wars" at the Grayslake Heritage Center and Museum. The society program tracing the history of Grayslake baseball, including the teams, personalities and noted Grayslake players from the 1890s to the present will be in the community room of the museum, 164 Hawley Street. The program is free. In the late 1890s and early 1900s, baseball was a popular past-time in Grayslake with organized teams, leagues and tournaments. Grayslake teams from the Athletics to the Rams and Knights will be highlighted along with the history of the local fields, such Subject and Falcon. Professional players Jay Hook and Red Fabor are a part of Grayslake's baseball history. The traveling Sox vs. Cubs exhibit will close Sept. 27.
