Bolingbrook man gets 3 years in fatal DUI

A Bolingbrook man has been sentenced to three years in prison in connection with a 2014 DUI crash that killed one of his passengers and severely injured another.

Luis Jimenez, 23, of the 500 block of Racine Lane, pleaded guilty June 1 to two counts of aggravated DUI.

Authorities said Jimenez left a friend's house in Wheaton about 2 a.m. May 17, 2014, to go for a ride. He approached a curve on Sheffield Street at a high rate of speed, lost control and crashed into a tree. His front passenger died at the scene and a passenger in the back seat was hurt.

An investigation into the crash revealed Jimenez had a blood alcohol content of .09, slightly above the legal limit.

He was sentenced Monday by Judge Robert Kleeman and will be required to serve 85 percent of his sentence before being eligible for parole.
