Midas franchisees 'Drive Out Hunger' in Chicago with community celebration

In the U.S., one in six people is "food insecure" - Midas' local franchisees launched Drive Out Hunger in the fall of 2014 to address that sad fact.

Since inception, store owners of independently owned and operated locations and their employees have been running food drives, raising funds and coordinating box drops at food banks, ultimately resulting in more than 750,000 meals donated to food-insecure individuals across North America.

This summer, Midas franchisees launched the Drive Out Hunger #1Mile1Meal Food Truck in their local communities. Over 40 days, the truck traveled, going more than 10,000 miles providing hunger relief efforts in 25 cities throughout the nation, with Chicago being the last stop.

With more than 812,000 men, women and children suffering from food scarcity every year in Chicago, Midas franchisee owners are challenging Chicagoans to do their part by bringing food, funds and hands-on assistance to hunger-relief efforts in the communities where their customers and associates live and work.

Make your mark and visit Midas locations around greater Chicago and donate or join them on Friday, July 17 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at 460 N. Bolingbrook Drive in Bolingbrook to help drive out hunger.

Midas franchisees have been long time supporters of local charitable initiatives. In addition to their ongoing support of the Drive Out Hunger Campaign, franchisees have also participated in Support Our Troops-America, Toys for Tots, Kendall Country Illinois Food Pantry, bike run for Shady cerebral palsy camp, Relay For Life, Youth Job Center and been members of the Chicago Better Business Bureau for 25 years.

How: At the event, community members can enjoy giveaways and help support the cause in three easy ways:

• Attend the food truck event and receive free lemonade, with donations suggested. All funds are collected and donated by the local franchisee to their local food bank. For every $5 donated, 25 meals will be made available to the hunger relief efforts.

• Bring a box or can of nonperishable food to the event; food donations will be gifted by the local franchisee to local food banks.

• Fuel the hunger-fighting road trip on social media by using #1Mile1Meal on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram. For every use of the #1Mile1Meal hashtag, the Drive Out Hunger Food Truck will drive one additional mile and one additional meal will be donated until we reach 50,000 meals donated.

Where/When: The Midas Drive Out Hunger Truck will be located at 460 N. Bolingbrook Drive in Bolingbrook on Friday, July 17, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Who: Representatives from Midas and the Greater Chicago Food Depository are available for phone interviews in advance or on-site interviews during the event
