Aurora teen charged after accidentally shooting two

A 16-year-old Aurora boy faces three felony charges after he accidentally shot two acquaintances at a house on the 500 block of Howard Street on the city's west side, authorities said Thursday.

Aurora police said they were called at 11:42 p.m. Wednesday for a report of two gunshot victims at Presence Mercy Center Hospital. The victims were a 17-year-old male who was shot in the hand and an 18-year-old male who was shot in the leg.

The teens told police they were with an acquaintance who was in possession of a handgun when it went off. It appears a single bullet struck the first victim in the hand and then struck the second victim in the leg.

Both teens were treated for minor wounds and released from the hospital.

Police said the victims gave different accounts of how and where the shooting occurred before finally giving them the name of the acquaintance and his address.

Police said they found the teen at his house and charged him with reckless discharge of a firearm, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon under the age of 21, and possession of a firearm without a FOID card.

The teen was taken to the Kane County Youth Home.

Police said they have not recovered the weapon and neither the victims nor the suspect have revealed its location.
