8.3 million vehicles on Illinois Tollway this Thanksgiving
Officials with the Illinois Tollway say they're expecting 8.3 million vehicles to travel on its 286 miles of roadways this Thanksgiving holiday.
Illinois Tollway officials said Monday that they will suspend construction lane closures to make way for the traffic. That will start at 12 p.m. on Wednesday.
The millions of travelers are expected starting Wednesday through the following Monday. The most popular day is forecast for Wednesday with about 1.7 million vehicles on the road. On an average day about 1.4 million vehicles are on the tollway system.
Tollway officials also warn that Illinois State Police will be out strictly enforcing drunken driving, speeding and distracted driving laws.
