Sale will pitch in All-Star Game

White Sox star pitcher Chris Sale will be on the mound at some point in Tuesday night's All-Star Game, said American League manager Ned Yost.

White Sox manager Robin Ventura said Saturday that he “would prefer (Sale) didn't” pitch in the game, but Yost said on ESPN's “Mike & Mike” radio show on Monday morning that he spoke with Ventura and got the go-ahead to play Sale.

“I'm going to pitch him; I've talked to Robin,” Yost said. “We're OK. He's definitely going to pitch in the game.”

The Chicago left-hander, who pitched seven innings in Saturday's win over the Cubs, is the only Sox player on the all-star roster this year. He currently leads the MLB in strikeouts with 157.

“We get a pretty good parameter of what they want us to do, and we just kind of abide by it,” Yost said. “I think it's important. If I sent one of my pitchers to an all-star team and I say, 'OK, this is what I'd like you to do: Go ahead and use him but don't abuse him.' I would expect them to do it, and I'm going to do the same thing. I'm going to respect each organization. I'm going to respect each pitcher and make sure we don't do anything over the top.”

Yost's Royals play Ventura's White Sox next Sunday.

“If it were up to me, quite frankly, I'd probably pitch Chris six or seven innings because we open up with them (after the break),” Yost said on the Monday radio show. “But I don't think I could get away with that.”
