Aurora police shoot at armed men, no one hit
An Aurora police officer fired on two suspects who authorities say pointed handguns at the officer and a partner Saturday night.
No one was injured in the officer-involved shooting, which occurred about 7:20 p.m. Saturday and ended with four people in custody.
According to police, the officers from the Aurora Police Department's Special Operations Group were observing a suspicious vehicle occupied by four men driving around a neighborhood near the intersection of Pearl Street and Parker Avenue shortly before the confrontation.
At some point, police said, two men got out of the vehicle and began walking between houses. As officers approached they observed that both men had handguns, police said.
The officers stopped their vehicle and attempted to make contact with the two armed men, at which time both subjects raised their handguns and pointed them toward the officers, police said. One of the officers, fearing for his safety and the safety of his partner, fired his duty weapon in the direction of the men, according to police.
Both men took off running through the yards with the officers chasing them on foot. One of the men was apprehended a short distance away.
The second man was able to elude officers temporarily, but Aurora police, with help from Montgomery police, Kane County Sheriff's deputies and the sheriff's K-9, were able to locate him and take him into custody. The man was taken to an area hospital to be treated for a dog bite to his arm, police said.
The vehicle the men were riding in was stopped and the two people inside also were taken into custody, police said. After an extensive search of the area, both handguns were recovered, according to police.
Police did not disclose the identity of the people taken into custody, or whether charges had been filed or were pending. The matter remains under investigation, police said.
