Bandits unable to topple Charge

Looking to avoid yet another sweep at the hands of the Bandits, the Dallas Charge came out swinging to pick up their first victory of the season against Chicago.

In a pitching matchup that featured Sara Moulton against Lauren Haeger of the Charge, it was the Charge getting on board early to help out their pitcher in the bottom of the first. With two runners on, Nadia Taylor singled down the left field line to score Yamada who singled earlier in the inning. Two more hits, a Kaitlyn Richardson double and single from Brianna Cherry, gave the Charge an early 3-0 at the end of the first.

Unable to cut down their deficit in the top of the second, the Charge came back up to bat in the bottom of the inning and added two more runs on with their fifth of the game coming of the bat of Taylor once again who doubled to score Yamada. A pitching change for the Bandits brought Kirsten Verdun into the circle for the second time in the series. She shut down the Charge for the next two innings.

The Bandits loaded the bases in the top of the sixth when two errors allowed two runners on for Brittany Cervantes who was hit by a pitch, but they were unable to capitalize as the Charge got a pop up and a strikeout to end the inning.

Haeger allowed just one hit, a single to Emily Allard in the first inning, to pick up the 5-0 shutout for the Charge with Sara Moulton suffering the loss, her first of the season, after allowing five runs on seven hits in 1.2 innings of work.

The Bandits return to action on Monday.
