Chicago White Sox fall flat in 9-1 loss to Orioles
Right fielder Avisail Garcia made a standout catch in the ninth inning Saturday to spark a 3-2 win over the Orioles, and the White Sox were energized as they filed off U.S. Cellular Field with a four-game winning streak.
The momentum did not carry over into Sunday.
In a 9-1 loss to Baltimore at the Cell, the Sox fell flat in every phase of the game.
The poor all-around play started in the top of the first inning, when third baseman Conor Gillaspie made 2 errors on the same play.
Starter Carlos Rodon limited the damage to 1 run, but the rookie had to throw extra pitches to get out of the early jam.
Rodon lasted just 5 innings, allowing 4 runs (3 earned) on 4 hits and 4 walks while throwing 102 pitches.
In addition to Gillaspie's 2 fielding miscues, relief pitcher Dan Jennings and second baseman Carlos Sanchez also made errors, which led to 2 more unearned runs.
Melky Cabrera's double in the sixth inning scored Jose Abreu for the White Sox' lone run, but Cabrera made a baserunning gaffe by trying to stretch the hit into a triple and was an easy out at third base.
