Hanover Twp. Senior Services recognized

Hanover Township Senior Services was presented with the 2014-2015 Outstanding Community Partnership Award earlier this month from the Association for Individual Development (AID).

Hanover Township's Stars-n-Stripes Café and AID began working together shortly after the cafe's opening in January of 2014. Twice a week, individuals with developmental disabilities volunteer in the cafe to assist with serving meals, greeting clients, and bussing tables. The clients of AID benefit by building an array of skills they can use in the futures, while also creating bonds with senior residents.

"While the township is always proud to be recognized for our programs and services, it's an even bigger honor for a community partner to recognize us for partnering to better serve our residents," said Steve Caramelli, Hanover Township trustee and Senior Citizens Service Committee liaison. "Last year over 300 senior volunteers assisted township staff in providing services to our residents and we are grateful for all of their generous support."

AID provides services to individuals who have developmental, physical and/or mental disabilities, those who have suffered a trauma, or those at risk. They provide a variety of services for these individuals, who take part in day programs where they have an option to volunteer at a variety of sites in order to improve their social skills and enhance vocational skills to better prepare them for a future job.
