New playgrounds at Des Plaines park

McKay-Nealis Park in Des Plaines has new playground equipment - two separate play structures for different age groups - which were installed before the park's recent rededication.

The park at 1755 S. Maple St. now has one of the largest playgrounds in Des Plaines, park district officials say.

One play structure is intended for two to five year olds and the other for those ages 5 to 12.

John P. McKay and Walter A. Nealis, partners in a Des Plaines real estate and development firm, donated land to the park district and purchased the original playground equipment, at a cost of $3,039.50, when the park was built in 1958.

Three generations of the McKay family helped cut the ribbon on the new playground late last month.

The park district's ParkIt! Patrol will bring an evening of fun and games to the park July 29, officials say.
