North: Pondering moves by Cutler, Sox

Time for some of my unlimited random thoughts.

• Kristin Cavallari, who is married to Bears quarterback Jay Cutler, has made herself noteworthy to Bears fans with her recent comments to Elle magazine. She said once Jay retires they won't live here - "Chicago's just not home." That's actually fine with me. Who cares if they stay?

• White Sox announcer Hawk Harrelson recently said he believes Minnesota Twins outfielder Torii Hunter is a Hall of Famer! No he isn't, he's a heck of a ballplayer, just not a Hall of Famer.

• While White Sox officials say they haven't finalized any radio deal, it's expected they'll move to WLS 890-AM next season. If so, it's a nice move by a station looking for an identity. With their game broadcasts lagging in the ratings on WSCR's the Score, the loss probably won't be that great. If the Sox become a better team and make a change in the booth, it might work well for WLS. It's difficult to predict what kind of impact the Sox will have, but the 50,000-watt signal could benefit the South Siders and the station.

• Cleveland Indian's infielder Jason Kipnis, who attended Glenbrook North High School, should be the starting second baseman in the All-Star Game. Kipnis is leading the American League in several categories, including batting average (.354), hits (99) and doubles (24). He should be in Cincinnati for the game!

• Pete Rose looks like he will stay with Fox Sports One as an analyst even after the recent news that Rose bet on baseball while he was a player. I'm glad - he's good at it and he should be allowed to continue to work.

• Bears training camp opens soon and the question marks are mounting, but I do feel more confident with a solid coach like John Fox at the top.

• The NBA draft is no different from the NFL draft - only two players deep - Karl-Anthony Towns and Jahlil Okafor. After that, the drop is huge.

• By the way, should three out of four majors in golf this year be on a links course? I say no.

• Kevin Love will probably re-sign with the Cleveland Cavaliers, but not for long with the increased salary cap set for the 2017 season.

• Terry Francona, manager of the Indians, said the other day that he ate 17 Popsicles in one night. I am pretty sure a lot of us guys could do that. I know I could.

• I have to say it again - way to go Hawks!

• NCAA basketball in Illinois needs to figure out a way to keep high school all-stars like Frank Kaminsky from Benet Academy and Okafor from Whitney Young in state for college. But don't hold your breath.
