Market Day sold to World's Finest Chocolate
Chicago-based World's Finest Chocolate, a family-owned business that produces fundraising candy products, said Wednesday it has agreed to acquire Itasca-based Market Day Corp.
Market Day, used by many Chicago and suburban schools, said in a statement that its grocery and event fundraising programs will have its last deliveries on Saturday. Orders can be placed on marketday.com through tonight by 11 p.m. Store and pickup information can be found on the site.
A selection of Market Day products will continue to be sold at Gordon Food Service stores while supplies last, the company said in a statement.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed and executives for both companies did not immediately respond for further comment.
Market Day, founded in 1978, laid off 26 workers earlier this year, according to some reports.
World's Finest Chocolate was founded by Edmond Opler Sr. in 1908 and is now led by the third generation, Eddie Opler.
