Woman denies setting boyfriend on fire

An Antioch Township woman pleaded not guilty yesterday to charges she tried to kill her boyfriend in May by setting him on fire at the home the couple shared. Deborah C. Roberts, 34, faces up to 45 years in prison if found guilty on a charge of aggravated battery using a flammable substance. Full story.

One dead, one in critical condition after motorcycle crash

A 23-year-old Ingleside man died and a 20-year-old McHenry woman was critically injured in a motorcycle crash on Wilson Road in unincorporated Grant Township Wednesday night. The Lake County sheriff's office said yesterday Nikolas D. Marcopoulos of Ingleside was driving a 2009 Buell motorcycle and Allison N. Morrison of McHenry was sitting behind him when the crash happened. Marcopoulos was pronounced dead at the scene. Full story.

An Aurora man has been charged with domestic battery after knocking a car containing a female acquaintance into the Fox River Wednesday, North Aurora police said yesterday. Full story.

73-year-old Aurora man loses $80,000 in lottery scam

A 73-year-old Aurora man is homeless after losing around $80,000 in a fake lottery scam. According to a news release by the Better Business Bureau, Lee Williams, who is retired, received calls for years from scammers telling him he'd won millions of dollars in a foreign lottery. Full story.

White Sox extend losing streak to 7 games

As the losses pile up on the Chicago White Sox, manager Robin Ventura is sure of one thing. "You can either come in, fight like (heck), scratch and claw, or curl up in a ball," Ventura said. "Nobody in there is going to curl up into a ball. They're all going to come out here and compete, and scratch and claw."
