Cars star in Naperville show

Saturday was all about cars in downtown Naperville.

Classic cars were on display along Jackson Avenue, fiberglass sculptures of cars were revealed along several streets and regular cars brought dads and kids to see the show.

The car-related festivities were organized by Downtown Naperville Alliance, which wanted to create a new event to celebrate the beginning of summer and Father's Day weekend, Executive Director Katie Wood said.

Cars built from the late 1920s to 1970 lined up along more than a block of Jackson Avenue for three hours while visitors stopped to learn about each ride's history and style.

While the classic car show ended at noon, the 15 sculptures of coupes and convertibles decorated as things like the Batmobile or an aquarium will be parked for viewing until after Labor Day weekend.

The sculptures can be seen along Main, Washington and Water streets and Chicago, Jackson, Jefferson and Van Buren avenues. Kids can climb aboard the cars for a pretend ride, and visitors can vote for their favorite at downtownnaperville.com.
