Save-A-Pet rescues 50 pets in Just One Day

Fifty cats and dogs were rescued on June 11 by Save-A-Pet as part of Just One Day, a nationwide movement where animal rescue communities band together to change the destiny of more than 10,000 companion animals all across America, saving them from euthanasia.

Save-A-Pet - a true no-kill rescue - sent staff members and volunteers to surrounding animal controls to save as many cats and dogs as possible. Their rescue efforts included: 29 cats/kittens from Chicago; two dogs and three cats/kittens from Lake County Animal Control; five dogs/puppies from Waukegan Animal Control; three dogs from Athens County Animal Control in Ohio; and four dogs/puppies and four cats/kittens from various animal control facilities in Southern Illinois.

In addition to saving lives, Save-A-Pet partnered with area veterinarians to help with its Just One Day mission. Dr. Anne Marie Woyma of Animal Care and Medical Center in Libertyville volunteered her services for the day, assisting with animal intakes and exams.

Additionally, several veterinary practices donated coupons and certificates for discounted services and goods for adopters, including Animal Care and Medical Center, Care Animal Hospital in Libertyville, Companion Animal Hospital in Vernon Hills and McHenry Pet Hospital.

Save-A-Pet has also created a unique way for the public to support and participate in its Just One Day endeavors by naming one or more of the animals saved on June 11. With a $150 contribution, the donor can select a cat or dog name from a predesignated list, further customizing it with a middle or last name.

The contribution covers the initial intake expenses for one animal, including their first exam, spay/neuter surgery, vaccinations, and microchipping. To name a Just One Day animal, visit saveapetil.ejoinme.org/MyPages/JustOneDay2015NamingOpportunities/tabid/697271/Default.aspx.

Save-A-Pet (SAP) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and one of the largest no-kill cat and dog rescues in Lake County that also operates a full-time adoption center. Operating under its mantra of "Help, Heal, Home," Save-A-Pet has saved more than 40,000 animals, and expanded thousands of families with the love of an adopted pet.

Rescuing and caring for the dogs and cats at the Grayslake facility costs more than $1,300,000 per year, equating to $3,500 a day to keep Save-A-Pet's doors open. Operated by a small, dedicated staff, as well as a strong volunteer base, Save-A-Pet relies solely on donor generosity in order to continue saving lives.

Founded in 1972 and unique in its mission, Save-A-Pet promises unconditional love and life for all of its rescued dogs and cats, regardless of the special circumstances they face, and does not discriminate against age, health, or any breeds.
