Obama calls Hawks, invites team to White House

President Barack Obama phoned members of the Blackhawks organization Wednesday to congratulate the team and extend an invitation to the White House.

A statement from the White House press office reads:

"Today, President Obama called Chicago Blackhawks Head Coach Joel Quenneville, Principal Owner and Chairman Rocky Wirtz, and team captain Jonathan Toews to congratulate the Blackhawks on winning the Stanley Cup. The President commended their leadership, and the entire team's efforts on their third championship in six years. The President added that he looks forward to welcoming the team back to the White House to celebrate their victory."

He also congratulated the team Tuesday from the @POTUS account on Twitter.

"Congrats to my hometown @NHLBlackhawks on 3 titles in 6 years - we'll see you and The Cup at the White House!" the tweet said.

The team also went to the White House in 2013 and in March 2011, nine months after their 2010 Stanley Cup win. It was rescheduled because of a conflict in Obama's schedule in fall 2010.
