Kane County Cougars roll to 10-2 win

The Kane County Cougars (32-32) won their fifth consecutive home game with a 10-2 victory over the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (21-44) on Tuesday night at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark.

Marty Herum put the Cougars ahead in the first inning with an RBI double, and they never looked back. Two innings later Chuck Taylor's RBI single doubled the lead before a throwing error by Wisconsin's catcher made it 3-0. Of the 3 runs, 2 were earned against losing pitcher Devin Williams (2-4).

Brad Keller (3-7) didn't allow the Timber Rattlers to score until the sixth inning. The Cougars' right-hander struck out seven over the first 4 innings and gave up 2 runs (1 unearned) in the sixth.

In the eighth inning, the Cougars added 6 runs. Joe Munoz led off with a walk and later came home on Victor Reyes' second RBI of the game. Two batters later Ildemaro Vargas doubled home a pair of runs. Herum, Colin Bray and Taylor all added more run-scoring plays as the Cougars batted around and finished the eighth inning leading 10-2.

Relief pitching from the Cougars' end also tossed 3 perfect innings, 1 each from Luis Ramirez, Cody Geyer and Nick Baker.

The Cougars and Timber Rattlers continue the series Wednesday. Markus Solbach (6-2, 2.76) will take the mound against Wisconsin's Cy Sneed (3-7, 2.62). First pitch from Fifth Third Bank Ballpark is scheduled for noon.
