Glen Ellyn issues order to boil water

Glen Ellyn issued a boil order for parts of town Tuesday after a large water main broke at the Roosevelt Road crossing near the DuPage River.

The water main has been isolated, officials said, and there is no further risk of river water entering the water main.

The boil order affects areas bounded by Roosevelt Road to the south, Baker Hill Drive to the west, Route 53 to the north and Finley Road to the east.

Officials said the order was issued because the area experienced a drop in overall water pressure that may have gone under 20 PSI as a result of the main break. The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency requires water purveyors to issue a boil order when water pressure drops below 20 pounds per square inch.

Residents of the area should boil water for at least five minutes before consuming. The order will remain in effect until at least Wednesday afternoon. The village will notify the public once the order is lifted.
