Bad weather, Hawks traffic make commute rough

With the Blackhawks Stanley Cup Final, summer roadwork and torrential downpours converging on the region, commuters are experiencing trying trips around the area tonight.

Metra announced delays of 5 to 20 minutes for BNSF Line riders at Union Station due to severe weather and a Milwaukee District West Line train was canceled because of a collision at a crossing in Wood Dale.

The hockey playoff game added more commuters to the roads during rush hour and heavy rain is also slowing traffic. Adding to drivers' troubles, the ramp from the inbound Eisenhower Expressway to outbound Dan Ryan Expressway remains shut down because of flooding.

Also, ABC 7 Chicago reported about 7 p.m. inbound Eisenhower lanes closed between Harlem and Des Plaines avenues. And parts of the Kennedy Expressway, including ramps at Belmont and Diversey, are flooded.

Numerous local roads have been hit by stormwater runoff, slowing traffic and closing some lanes.

There are reports of localized flooding in Carol Stream, Glendale Heights and Elmhurst.
