Captains comeback against Cougars

EAST LAKE, Ohio - The Kane County Cougars stranded 14 base runners Saturday night, leaving the door open for the Lake County Captains to secure an 8-7 win at Classic Park.

Although the Cougars (31-31) totaled 16 hits against Lake County (33-28), but lost a 7-5 lead in the tide the bottom of the eighth inning as closer Zac Curtis (2-3) gave up a three-run homer to Bobby Bradley.

The Cougars loaded the bases with two outs in the ninth, but failed to drive in the tying run.

Offensively the Cougars fired on all cylinders collecting 12 hits over the first five innings. The Cougars lineup batted around in the fourth inning as they put together seven singles (including five consecutive) for a four-run effort. Into the bottom of the fifth inning, the Cougars had a 6-1 lead.

Ildemaro Vargas, Regis, Colin Bray, Michael Perez, Ryan Gebhardt and Victor Reyes all had multihit games.

The Cougars and Captains continue this series on Sunday. Ethan Elias (6-2, 2.22) takes the mound for the Cougars against Lake County's Sean Brady (4-3, 3.17). First pitch from Classic Park is scheduled for 11:30 a.m.
