Castro gives Cubs a soggy win
Starlin Castro hit a line-drive single in the bottom of the ninth inning to score Kris Bryant with the winning run as the Cubs beat the Cincinnati Reds 4-3 Saturday night in a game delayed nearly three hours by rain after five innings.
Bryant led off the ninth with a double off Tony Cingrani. After Miguel Montero was hit by a pitch, Castro line the game-winning hit to center.
Montero gave the Cubs a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning. Kris Bryant led off with a single, extending a hitting streak to 10 games. Montero followed with a home run to center field, his ninth of the season.
Joey Votto's opposite-field homer to left with one out in the fourth brought the Reds within 2-1. The Cubs added a run in the bottom of the fourth. Bryant rocketed double to the left-field wall leading off. He went to third on Montero's single. Starlin Castro then grounded the ball to shortstop Eugenio Suarez, who threw the ball home. Bryant originally called out, but a replay review revered the call, and the Cubs had a 3-1 led.
The Reds tied the game with 2 in the sixth after the rain delay.
