214@100: Forest View girls bowlers ruled the 1970s

Forest View High School, which was open from 1962 to 1986, packed a lot of athletics into 44 years. One of the enduring highlights is the girls bowling teams of the 1970s and early 80s. The team took the state championship in 1973-74; 1976-77 and 1977-78; they were state champion runners-up in 1974-75 and 1975-76 - and, incredibly, the girls were district champions every year from 1973-1982.

One Forest View bowler, Jackie Sinkler, was named an individual state champion in the 1981-82 season. Kudos to head coaches Diann Tomaino and Warren Myers.

"I don't think we would be where we are today if it weren't for Mr. Myers," senior Karen Toppel told the Daily Herald after their championship run in 1978. Toppel came to Forest View her junior year and bowled on both Falcon championship teams. "During bad weather he would pick us up to practice on Saturdays."

Player Cheryl Hansen said Myers worked on their form as bowlers. "He's really built (the team) up the last two years," she added.
