Dooley's Hiroko Darnall named Outstanding Teacher

Congratulations to Dooley teacher Hiroko Darnall who received the 2015 Elgin Heinz Outstanding Teacher Award in the Japanese Language category. The award was presented by the United States-Japan Foundation to teachers who further mutual understanding between Americans and Japanese.

The Elgin Heinz Teacher Award is presented to two teachers annually in two categories, humanities and Japanese language. Darnall is currently a third-grade teacher in the Japanese dual language program at Dooley. She has taught at Dooley for 15 years and in District 54 for a combined 26 years.

The award was named in honor of Elgin Heinz for his commitment to educating students about Asia and for his inspiration in the field of pre-college education.
