Police capture teen who escaped St. Charles youth jail

An inmate who escaped from the Illinois Youth Center in St. Charles Monday night is back in police custody.

The Illinois Department of Corrections Apprehension Unit and the U.S. Marshals Service Great Lakes Task force apprehended 19-year-old Denzell Walker at 3:10 p.m. Wednesday. Illinois Department of Juvenile Justice officials refused to supply information about where and how Walker was located.

Walker first arrived at the medium-security facility June 4. He was being held following a parole violation following an arrest on a burglary charge. Illinois State Police, Kane and DuPage County Sheriff's officers, St. Charles Police and Chicago Police were all enlisted to help with the search.

Officials would supply no information about how Walker escaped. The facility and other juvenile detention units are under review for possible closure by Gov. Bruce Rauner.
