Mundelein drowning victim had been reported missing

A 22-year-old man who was reported missing this past Sunday was found dead Tuesday morning in the water of Loch Lomond in Mundelein.

Police in a news release identified Freddy Rojo-Ramirez as the drowning victim.

Authorities responded to the south beach at 10 a.m. to a report of an unresponsive man in the water. The call came from beach employees who were preparing to begin swimming lessons, according to the police news release. Rojo-Ramirez was retrieved by fire personnel but showed no signs of life. An autopsy to determine the cause of death is scheduled for Wednesday morning.

Police said Rojo-Ramirez was reported missing at 5 p.m. Sunday and left the house without his cellphone and wallet. Police said they were told he had a history of mental illness and frequented parks, forest preserves and the seminary grounds in Mundelein. Loch Lomond, which is north of Route 176 and west of Route 45, is a man-made lake, and access is restricted to neighborhood residents and guests.

Five adult employees at the beach were offered counseling services, police said. Counseling for three juveniles present for swimming lessons will be arranged through Mundelein Elementary District 75, according to police.
