Carriers' food drive donations a big help

With over 50 million people facing hunger every day in America, including 17 million children, the Letter Carriers' annual Stamp Out Hunger food drive is an asset to our community. On Saturday, May 9th 2015, the Schaumburg postal workers dropped off over 7,250 pounds of groceries to the Schaumburg Township Food Pantry. We serve about 600 families each month from our community at the Schaumburg Township Food Pantry.

We would like to thank the communities of Schaumburg and Hoffman Estates for the generous donations left at their mailboxes, to be picked up by their postal carriers. Your contributions will ensure that residents in need of food within Schaumburg Township receive assistance.

We are grateful to Schaumburg Postal Service Carriers who delivered the donations to the Township. We also appreciate the volunteers from Citizen Police Academy Alumni Association of Schaumburg who assisted in boxing, sorting and weighing all the groceries. With their support this event was a huge success. Thank you Riccardo's Restaurant of Schaumburg for donating pizzas to feed the hard working staff and volunteers.

Food pantries assist families in our community in times of hardship and are in constant need of restocking. We are in need of canned meats, canned tomato products, pasta, canned fruit, peanut butter, jelly, and juice as well as paper products such as toilet paper, paper towels and Kleenex, and personal hygiene items. Please keep us in mind when you do your family shopping. Donations are needed year round.

Call the General Assistance Department at (847) 884-0030 for information or assistance. Office hours are 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday - Friday.
