Diageo buys property to expand Plainfield facility

PRNewswire

PLAINFIELD - Spirits, beer and wine company Diageo recently purchased a 37 acre plot of land adjacent to its manufacturing facility in Plainfield for $10 million, the company announced.

The site, at 14020 Coilplus Drive, currently houses a 246,000 square foot warehouse, which Diageo will use to store finished case goods from its bottling operations across the street, as well as from other locations.

"Plainfield is our largest manufacturing site in North America, and this investment gives us the opportunity and flexibility to expand our footprint there," said Paul Gallagher, president of Diageo Americas Supply. "We are always looking for ways to optimize our supply chain and when this land became available it made strategic sense to acquire it."

Diageo's Plainfield location is the primary manufacturing location for Diageo's range of Smirnoff branded products and employs approximately 600 people.

The company has played a key role in the Illinois community for many years and seen a number of expansions and upgrades since its opening in 1966, including a recently-completed $120 million enhancement.
