Teens can audition for 'Complete History of America'

Palatine Park District is offering a new summer theater program for high school students. The new High School Comedy Playhouse will be holding auditions on June 11 and 12 for four July performances of "The Complete History of America (abridged)."

Students age 14-19 with a valid high school ID are invited to audition (incoming high school freshmen and recent graduates are also welcome). Students should prepare a one minute monologue from a published play. It is strongly recommended that monologues be memorized, but it is not a requirement. Students will be paired up to read selections from the script and should be prepared to provide a list of any and all conflicts they might have during the months of June and July. Interested students should choose one of the following audition dates: 6-9 p.m. Thursday, June 11, at Cutting Hall Performing Arts Center, 150 E. Wood St., Palatine, or 6-9 p.m. Friday, June 12, at Community Center-Room 1B, 250 E. Wood St., Palatine. The audition form can be downloaded at www.cuttinghall.org/hscomedyplayhouse.

Students should plan to stay for the duration of the audition. Callbacks will be held on Saturday, June 13 if necessary. Rehearsals will begin on Monday, June 15, with a schedule based upon cast conflicts.

From Washington to Watergate, from the Bering Straits to Baghdad, from New World to New World Order, "The Complete History of America (abridged)" is a 90-minute, roller-coaster ride through the glorious quagmire that is American History, reminding us that it's not the length of your history that matters, it's what you've done with it.

Performances will be 7 p.m. Friday, July 17; 3 and 7 p.m. Saturday, July 18; and at 3 p.m. Sunday, July 19, at Cutting Hall Performing Arts Center, 150 E. Wood St., Palatine. Tickets can be purchased at www.cuttinghall.org or by calling (847) 202-5222. Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for seniors, and $8 for children and students.
