Algonquin Area Public Library District welcomes new board

A new Algonquin Area Public Library District board of trustees sat for the first time at the May 27 meeting and immediately got to work on a variety of agenda items, including the organization of the board, the passage of resolutions honoring retired trustees, and the approval of the working budget FY2015-2016.

Prior to the adjournment of the previous board, elected trustees Jan Baker Kelsch, Louise Nee, Tina Sanchez, and Katrina McGuire took their oaths of office as new trustees. They join trustees Lynn Hammerlund, Erin Van Der Bosch, and Mary Gebhardt, who are currently serving their terms.

The new board elected Lynn Hammerlund as president, Erin Van Der Bosch as vice president, Louis Nee as secretary, and Kristina McGuire as treasurer.

Trustees were then appointed to the board's two standing committees as follows:

• Facilities Committee: Erin Van Der Bosch (chair), Jan Kelsch, and Tina Sanchez.

• Budget and Personnel Committee: Katrina McGuire (chair), Mary Gebhardt, and Louise Nee.

Tina Sanchez was appointed as the board liaison to the Friends of the Library.

In addition, the board passed four resolutions honoring retired trustees Doris Benes, Jarid Brockman, Brian Schwarz and Kent Sprague. In particular, the resolutions called attention to the previous trustees' advocacy for the library in the community, their vision for library service into the 21st century, and their service as advisers and resources for the library staff.

The next board meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, June 24, at 7:30 p.m. Board meetings are open to the public and are held in the administration offices on the lower level of the Harnish main library, 2600 Harnish Road (west of Randall Road) in Algonquin.
