Blackhawks rally late for the win in Game 1

The Blackhawks got 2 goals in just under two minutes late in the third period and stole Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final with a 2-1 victory last night at Amalie Arena. Rookie sensation Teuvo Teravainen scored with 6:32 left in the game, then poked the puck to Antoine Vermette moments later and the veteran center whipped it past Ben Bishop for the game-winner. Family, friends remember Aurora woman as 'most passionate Marine'

Marine Cpl. Sara A. Medina of Aurora was remembered yesterday at a funeral service in Plainfield as passionate about military service, to the point that she would talk to youths about it back home. Medina, 23, five other U.S. service members and two Nepalese military members were killed May 12 in a helicopter crash in Nepal. Full story with video.

Police: Jogger attacked on Elgin bike path; no suspect in custody

A woman was attacked while jogging yesterday in Elgin, police say, and they continue to look for the person responsible. The woman was approached just before noon on a bike path near McBride Street north of Kimball Street, Elgin police said in a news release. Full story.

Tollway chief announces resignation

Two top Illinois tollway leaders are on the way out, with Executive Director Kristi Lafleur announcing her resignation yesterday and board Chairman Paula Wolff stepping down earlier this week. The move comes amid a changed political climate in Springfield. Gov. Bruce Rauner appointed new tollway directors last week, and it's expected he will want to put his own stamp on the agency. How you can help family of boy struck, killed by car

An online memorial fund for the family of the 5-year-old Palatine boy who was killed by a car this week has raised more than $12,000 in 24 hours. The child, Kobe Lewis, was apparently alone and walking on Palatine Road Monday afternoon near his home when he was hit by a car and later died at Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights. Thieves going after catalytic converters in Aurora

Aurora police say they're investigating numerous thefts of catalytic converters that have occurred since Sunday. Nine total thefts and an attempted theft all happened during the night on all different makes and models of cars of cars parked on North Marywood Avenue, North Marywood Court, Tollview Avenue, and North Farnsworth Avenue. Lake County firing health care firm for not promptly treating inmates

The company overseeing health care at Lake County's jail and juvenile detention center will be fired for not promptly examining and treating inmates, officials said yesterday. Pittsburgh-based Wexford Health Sources has had the job for a little more than a year. Problems included delayed prisoner examinations and treatments, both for physical ailments and mental health issues, Lawlor said. Full story.
