Cougars blanked 3-0 by Peoria

PEORIA - The Peoria Chiefs evened the series by shutting out the Kane County Cougars 3-0 on Monday at Dozer Park.

The Cougars were shut out for the second time this series as Daniel Poncedeleon (6-0) matched his teammate Luis Perdomo with 8 scoreless innings. Poncedeleon allowed only 3 hits with no walks and 5 strikeouts. With Poncedeleon under 90 pitches, Peoria manager Joe Kruzel still went with a reliever in the ninth. Tyler Bray picked up his second save.

Touki Toussaint (0-2) suffered his second straight loss despite his second quality start. The Cougars' right-hander walked six in his 6 innings but stranded nine Chiefs (six in scoring position).

Peoria scored its only run against Toussaint in the second inning on Andrew Sohn's sacrifice fly. The Chiefs scored runs off the Cougars' bullpen in the eighth and ninth for a 3-0 lead.

After 22 straight games the Cougars will enjoy a day off Tuesday. A six-game homestand against Eastern Division teams begins Wednesday. The Cougars will face the Bowling Green Hot Rods for three games before welcoming in the Dayton Dragons.
