Fuel truck rolls over, bursts into flames on tollway near Rosemont

A fuel truck rolled over and burst into flames early Sunday morning while driving east on Interstate 90 near Rosemont, Illinois State Police said.

The driver emerged unhurt from the crash, which is still under investigation.

The single-vehicle crash occurred at 1:12 a.m. about 1½ miles west of the Cumberland Avenue exit. State police said the road was wet from rain, and the vehicle, a 2012 Freightliner truck, was driving too quickly for conditions.

The vehicle rolled over, and the truck, which was carrying 8,500 gallons of fuel, exploded. The road was closed until 4:40 a.m. while Rosemont firefighters put out the flames and the wreckage was removed, police said.

The driver, a 28-year-old old man, did not need to be transported for treatment. State police said the carrier was Klemm Transportation out of Green Bay, Wisconsin.

No citations have been issued, state police said.
