Anthony is best woman for $20 bill

Recently, there has been talk about replacing Andrew Jackson on the $20 bill with a woman from American history.

The organization behind this petition, Woman on 20s, is advocating for this change in honor of the 100th anniversary of women's suffrage in 2020. The $20 bill was chosen due to controversy surrounding Andrew Jackson's presidency, such as the Trail of Tears and Jackson's opposition to paper currency.

The organization created an online poll aimed at selecting the woman to promote for the $20 bill. In the end, the winner was Harriet Tubman, mostly known for her role in the Underground Railroad. Tubman beat out other "contestants", including Eleanor Roosevelt and Rosa Parks.

While I am a strong supporter of having a woman on any denomination of American currency, I feel that since this coincides with the 100th anniversary of women's suffrage, we should have one of the early leaders of the suffrage movement be recognized. Instead, I propose to put Susan B. Anthony, a pivotal leader in the early suffragist movement.

Anthony dedicated her life for women to be able to vote and participate in government, and she tirelessly advocated for a constitutional amendment. Her efforts led to the passage of the 19th Amendment in 1920, which is what this petition is celebrating.

In the end, whether it be Harriet Tubman, or Susan B. Anthony, the fact that a woman could end up being on American currency is an achievement in itself. Being a woman, I would be thrilled to see any female historical figure on the $20 bill as it signals a huge step forward in American society over the past 100 years.
