Nearly perfect postseason start for Wedl

Kayla Wedl pitched a no-hitter and nearly a perfect game, and homered three times, as Wauconda's softball team routed Chicago Noble/Muchin 18-0 in a Class 3A regional semifinal at Wauconda on Wednesday.

Wedl struck out 14 in a five-inning complete game. The only batter to reach was on a dropped-third strike.

At the plate, Wedl finished 4-for-4. Brooke Sefcik, Alexandra Steffens and Hailey Davenport each had 2 hits, including a double.

Third-seeded Wauconda (24-11), which scored 11 runs in the first inning, will play in Saturday's 11 a.m. regional final on its home field. The Bulldogs will face the winner of today's game between No. 6 Vernon Hills and No. 11 CICS/Northtown.

Antioch 10, North Chicago 0: At Antioch, Jill Everett homered, tripled and drove in 2 runs, and the second-seeded Sequoits did not allow a hit over five innings in their Class 3A regional semifinal.

Winning pitcher Stephanie Bonaguidi (2 innings) and Amanda Costain (double) also had 2 hits apiece. Madeline Hart knocked in 3 runs, and Jessica Pedersen was 1-for-1 with 2 RBI for Antioch (25-9), which advanced to Saturday's 11 a.m. regional final.

McHenry 17, Round Lake 0: At Grayslake North, Kristin Koepke pitched a five-inning perfect game and also homered, as the top-seeded Warriors rolled in the Class 4A regional semifinal.

Warren 18, Lake Forest 0: At Palatine, the top-seeded Blue Devils cruised in their Class 4A regional semifinal.

Glenbrook North 4, Mundelein 3: At Buffalo Grove, the second-seeded Mustangs were stunned by the 15th-seeded Spartans.

Stevenson 7, Deerfield 6: At Libertyville, the 10th-seeded Patriots advanced in the Class 4A regional.
