Aurora woman gets 26 years in prison for armed robberies

An Aurora woman was sentenced Wednesday to 26 years in prison for her role in two armed robberies in 2014.

Fatima M. Robertson, 24, of the 1100 block of Liberty Street, pleaded guilty to armed robbery and attempted armed robbery in a plea accepted by Kane County Judge Alice Tracy.

According to prosecutors, Robertson and another person entered a business on the 1900 block of North Farnsworth Avenue at about 11:45 a.m. July 22.

The two were wearing gloves and armed with an assault rife when they went to the store owner and demanded gold and diamonds, prosecutors said.

But Robertson and her accomplice were at the wrong business, so they ordered the owner and other person into the restroom, smashed their cellphones and took about $2,000 and left.

In the second incident, Robertson and another person entered a business on the 400 block of Hinman Avenue at about 10 p.m. Aug. 4 with an assault rifle, prosecutors said.

Employees hid in the office as Robertson unsuccessfully tried to break open the cash register before fleeing, prosecutors said.

Robertson can have her sentence cut in half for good behavior while in prison and gets credit for about nine months at the Kane County jail while the cases were pending.

Anyone with information about either robbery or Robertson's accomplice should call Aurora police at (630) 256-5500, Aurora Crime Stoppers at (630) 892-1000 or the Kane County sheriff's department at (630) 208-2024 or text information to 847411.
