Aurora police search for suspect in fatal shooting

Police are searching for a suspect in the fatal shooting of a 56-year-old man who died Tuesday night after being shot outside his Aurora home early Sunday morning.

Darnell K. Eaton died shortly before 8:40 p.m. at Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove, where he was being treated for multiple gunshot wounds, police said Wednesday.

Police responded to Eaton's home, on the 1300 block of East New York Street, around 2:05 a.m. Sunday, after receiving a call about shots fired.

Eaton and another 58-year-old man were found inside the home with gunshot wounds.

Both men were shot shortly after exiting a rear door of the home, by someone standing in the northwest corner of the backyard, police said. They ran back into the house after being shot.

A Hispanic male in his late teens or early 20s was seen running north from the scene after the shooting. The man entered a light-colored pickup truck or SUV that was parked on Calhoun and drove north, according to police.

The 58-year-old is still being treated for his gunshot wounds at an Aurora hospital. Investigators do not believe the two men were the intended targets of the shooting and no motive has been established.

Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call investigators at (630) 256-5500 or Aurora Area Crime Stoppers at (630) 892-1000. Crime Stoppers calls are anonymous and qualify for a cash reward of up to $5,000 for information that leads to an arrest.
