Fire in Mundelein damages garage

A fire at two-story house just south of Carmel Catholic High School in Mundelein resulted in $50,000 in damage but no injuries Tuesday, fire officials said.

Firefighters were called at 11:18 a.m. to a two-story house in the 900 block of Concord Circle and arrived seven minutes later to find heavy fire on the west side of the attached garage. A woman was in the house at the time of the fire but exited safely before firefighters arrived, according to the Mundelein fire department.

Fire officials said in a news release that a general response alarm to bring in additional resources was sounded due to the volume of the fire. Thirteen vehicles and 31 personnel were at the scene. Departments from Grayslake, Lake Villa, Countryside Fire Protection District and Lincolnshire-Riverwoods, Libertyville and Fox Lake assisted.

The fire caused heavy damage on the west side of the garage and extended into a portion of the living area in the house. The house is temporarily uninhabitable and residents will stay with relatives, according to the release.

The fire was determined to be under control 14 minutes after the first crew arrived.

The cause is under investigation, officials said.
