Baseball: Fox Valley roundup Saturday, May 23

Glenbard South 13, Burlington Central 10: The host Raiders collected 12 hits against four Central pitchers to win this nonconference slugfest. Andrew Wiss went 3-for-4 with a triple and 2 RBI and John Murphy had 2 hits and a walk for Burlington Central (24-8).

Crystal Lake South wins twice: At North Park University, the Gators defeated Riverside-Brookfield 4-1 and toppled DePaul Prep 7-5. Garrett Bright went 3-for-3 with a solo home run against Riverside-Brookfield (20-10). Ryan Wilkening limited the damage from 9 hits and 2 walks by holding the Bulldogs to an earned run in 6 innings. Mike Avella struck out a pair to earn a 1-inning save. Against DePaul Prep, Bright delivered a 2-run home run in the top of the fifth inning to snap a 4-4 tie and propel the Gators to the win. Reliever Andrew Engelking pitched 2⅓ innings to earn the victory for CL South (24-8).

Stevenson 2, Cary-Grove 1: Stevenson scored an unearned run in the bottom of the sixth against hard-luck reliever Shane Barlas, who took the loss. Larkin Hanselmann allowed a run in 2 innings of work and Jimmy Perkins threw 3 scoreless innings for the Trojans. Matt Sutherland singled and drove in the only run for Cary-Grove (23-8-2).

Huntley sweeps Grant: Huntley opened this nonconference doubleheader with a 2-1 walk-off win when Brandon Meyer's bunt scored Pierce Albright from third base. Jake Lonergan, DJ Cruz and winning pitcher Ryan Mills shared the pitching workload. Meyer (RBI) led a 10-hit attack with 3 hits, including a triple. In Game 2, five Huntley pitchers combined to limit the Bulldogs to 1 hit in a 5-2 victory. Jake Polo pitched 2 perfect innings to earn the win, Brandon Altergott tripled and Ryan McGran drove in 2 runs for Huntley (9-26).

Maine South 2, Jacobs 0: The Golden Eagles were held to 4 singles in this nonconference home defeat. Tyler Jones absorbed the loss despite holding Maine South (18-12) to 2 runs (1 earned) on 4 hits and a walk. Four pitchers toed the rubber for Jacobs (24-10).

Dundee-Crown 4, Palatine 1: Jared Ludwig put Dundee-Crown on his back in this nonconference home win against Palatine (14-19). Not only did the senior scatter 6 hits and 2 walks while striking out 2 in a 93-pitch, complete-game victory, he went 2-for-3 at the plate with a home run, a double and 2 RBI. Riley Alvarado singled and drove in a run for Dundee-Crown (19-12).

Richmond-Burton 4, Hampshire 3: The Rockets scored 4 runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a 4-2 lead. Jayson Fleisner's RBI single in the seventh cut Hampshire's deficit to a run, but the Rockets induced a bases-loaded popup off the bat of Trey Schamm to end the nonconference game. Schramm held Richmond-Burton (11-18) scoreless without a hit or a walk and struck out 3 in 4 innings. Reliever Jacob Manning took the loss for Hampshire (17-16).
