Burlington Central 12, Grayslake Central 2: The visiting Rockets scored in all but the second inning to run away with this nonconference playoff tuneup. Senior Tanner Smith went 2-for-4 with a home run and a double to up his season batting average to an even .500 (50-for-100). Andrew Lauber doubled and drove in 3 runs and Ryan Gannon doubled and drove in a pair. Winning pitcher Jonny Frederickson was among four pitchers to get work for Central (24-7). David Llorens took the loss for Grayslake Central (17-15).

Crystal Lake South 5, McHenry 1: Senior Matthew Schingel improved to 10-0 and lowered his ERA to 1.71 by holding the McHenry (19-13, 9-8) to 4 hits and a walk in a complete-game victory in the Fox Valley Conference's Valley Division. Schingel also sparked South's 4-run second inning with a 2-run home run, and John Constantino had 3 hits for CL South (22-8, 12-5).

Cary-Grove 3, Crystal Lake Central 2: Larkin Hanselmann singled with one out, stole second base and scored on John Carone's sixth-inning double to lift Cary-Grove (23-7-2) in a nonconference playoff tuneup. Carone's second hit of the day made a winner of reliever Brian Flanagan, who allowed 1 hit and struck out 2 in 2 innings.

Jacobs 8, Lakes 2: Matt Kozlak tripled and scored twice, and Mike Addante went 3-for-4 with a double and 2 RBI in this nonconference road win at Lakes (20-10-1). Erik Flores earned the win after yielding only 1 hit and 3 walks in 4 innings for Jacobs (24-9).

DeKalb 9, Dundee-Crown 6: The host Barbs scored 4 runs in the bottom of the sixth to prevail in nonconference play. Right-hander A.J. Hop held the Chargers to 2 hits and a walk and struck out 2 in 5 innings for DeKalb (16-16). Michael Cruise had a double among his 3 hits and reliever Nathan Nash took the loss for Dundee-Crown (18-12).

Geneva 4, Bartlett 1: The Hawks were outhit 8-4 in this Upstate Eight crossover. Starting pitcher Mike Prang allowed 2 earned runs on 4 hits and 2 walks and struck out 3 in 4 innings for Bartlett (16-17, 13-12).

St. Charles East 5, Larkin 4: The Saints rallied for 3 runs in the top of the sixth inning to overtake the host Royals in the Upstate Eight River finale for both teams. Zach Edgar had 2 hits and 3 RBI and Tanner Gardon doubled for Larkin (10-22, 7-18). Losing pitcher Will King allowed 4 runs (3 earned) on 7 hits and 3 walks in 5 innings. Right-hander Matt Breidigan tossed a 5-hitter with 2 walks and 8 strikeouts for St. Charles East (23-9, 18-7).

Waubonsie Valley 4, Elgin 2: Upstate Eight Valley champion Waubonsie Valley (27-5, 22-3) scored 3 runs in the first inning and added an insurance marker in the fifth to win this Upstate Eight crossover in Elgin. Dean Anderson took the loss for Elgin (8-27, 4-22) despite holding the Warriors to 3 earned runs on 5 hits and 3 walks in 4 innings. Tom Sobeski doubled for the Maroons.

South Elgin 3, Metea Valley 2: Justin Howard's one-out sacrifice fly in the top of the eighth scored Dane Toppel from third base with the go-ahead run to lift the Storm in the Upstate Eight Valley. Max Keough (5-1) went the distance for South Elgin (20-7, 17-7). He held Metea Valley (19-13, 13-12) to 2 runs (1 earned) on 3 hits to lower his ERA to 0.91 in 46⅓ innings. Keough struck out 11 without issuing a walk in 8 innings.

Woodstock 8, Huntley 2: Brandon Altergott was 3-for-3 for Huntley in its FVC crossover loss. He was also the losing pitcher.
