Baseball: Fox Valley roundup Thursday, May 21

The Elgin Academy baseball team took Hinckley-Big Rock to extra innings in the semifinals of the Class 1A Elgin Academy regional Thursday, but the Hilltoppers gave up a run in the top of the eighth inning to see their season come to a close with a 5-4 loss.

Karl Rauschenberger and Ian Wilson each hit home runs for Elgin Academy, which finished the season with a 9-14 record.

Jonathan Cruz went the distance on the mound for the Hilltoppers, allowing just 4 hits with 12 strikeouts and 3 walks.

St. Charles East 8, Larkin 3: Jon Lenz (2B) and Tanner Gardon each had 2 hits for Larkin (10-21, 7-17) in this Upstate Eight River loss. Lenz also suffered the loss on the mound.

St. Charles North 10, Elgin 7: Eddy Ramos had 3 hits and Clay White added 2 but the Maroons (8-26, 4-21) fell short in the UEC River. John Nelson took the loss on the hill for Elgin.

Bartlett 11, Metea Valley 10: Jordan Flint hit 2 home runs and had 6 RBI as the Hawks (16-16, 13-11) won in the UEC Valley. Cory Krolikowski and Brad Fender each added doubles for Bartlett and Alex Curtis picked up the win on the mound.

Hampshire 3, Grayslake North 0: Tristyn Ross had a double while Michael Kruse and Andrew Luchtman each drove in runs to lead the Whip-Purs (17-15, 8-11) to a Fox Valley Conference Fox Division win. Jacob Manning added 2 hits for Hampshire. Alex Crinigan was the winning pitcher, allowing 2 hits in 6 innings.

Cary-Grove 3, Jacobs 0: Matt McCumber threw a 2-hitter, Jimmy Perkins had a double and Mark Smith had 2 hits with an RBI to lead the Trojans (22-7-2, 15-2) in the FVC Valley.

Dundee-Crown 9, Huntley 8: Jared Ludwig (2B), Nathan Nash and Michael Cruise each drove in 2 runs for the Chargers (18-11, 10-7) in the FVC Valley. Jeff Heinrich had a home run and a double and 4 RBI to lead the Red Raiders (7-25, 3-14), who also got 3 hits and an RBI from Brandon Altergott. Riley Alvarado was the winning pitcher and Ben Reiva suffered the loss.
