Elk Grove returns to MSL title game

Senior Christian Camacho gave Elk Grove the victory it needed, striking out six and walking two while allowing 6 hits in a complete-game victory in a 4-2 victory over visiting Palatine.

That outcome assures the Grenadiers a share of Mid-Suburban East baseball title and puts them into Friday's MSL championship game, the second straight time Elk Grove will represent the East Division. The Grens are the league's defending champs, having topped Schaumburg in last year's title game.

Prospect has one game remainining in conference play, against Rolling Meadows on Tuesday. If Prospect wins that game, the Grens and Knights would share the East title - but Elk Grove would still have an edge in tiebreaker criterion.

Camacho finished 2-for-4 at the plate; Brandon Post went 2-for-3 and A.J. Lorenz doubled for the Grens (19-8, 12-4).

Zach Oles finished 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI and was the only player with more than one hit for Palatine (13-18, 7-9).

Fremd 11, Wheeling 10: J.T. Kolderup homered and finished with 5 RBI and was also the winning pitcher in relief as the visiting Vikings held on for an MSL triumph.

The Vikes trailed early, as Wheeling scored 8 runs over its first 3 at-bats, a big chunk of them coming on a 3-run homer by Alex Khatcherian.

Fremd jumped back in front 10-8 after a 6-run rally in the fourth inning, then tacked on what turned out to be an important insurance run in the eighth as Wheeling rallied with 2 of its own in the bottom of the sixth.

The Vikings finished with 20 hits, getting big efforts from Kaz Higuchi (2-5, triple, 3 RBI), Ethan Hajdukovic (3 hits, double), Ian Bohn (3 hits) and Kolderup (5-5, 2 runs scored).

For Wheeling, Jake Jordan doubled and drove in 2 runs, Brenden Spillane went 1-for-1 with 3 walks and Khatcherian doubled to finish 2-for-4 with 2 runs scored.

At 9-7 in the MSL, Fremd and Conant finished tied for second in the MSL West.

Conant 10, Rolling Meadows 5: Matt Fauth went 3-for-4 from the leadoff spot and scored twice as visiting Conant produced 16 hits in MSL play.

Max Heeren and Nick Zouras had 2 hits for Hersey (9-17-1) and Will Trossen doubled and drove in a run.

Brendan Beck homered and drove in 2 runs for Schaumburg (12-14-1, 6-10), which got 2 hits from Chris Broccolino and a double and 2 RBI from Christian Spitelli.

Hoffman Estates 3, Buffalo Grove 0: Ryan Ward allowed 4 hits, only one of them for extra bases, to help the visiting Hawks pick up an MSL victory.

Freshman Jack Vaselaney pitched a complete game for the Bison, allowing 6 hits and 2 earned runs. Trey Cervantes had a pair of hits for BG (13-18, 7-9) and Nate D'Onofrio doubled.

Maine West 10, Maine East 5: Crosley Duckmann tripled, finishing 2-for-5 with 4 RBI to help Maine East past the host Blue Demons. Sean Russell and Eric Outlaw both doubled and finished with 2 hits for the Warriors (14-13).

Sam Kindle tossed the first 6 innings for Maine West, allowing 4 runs - but none of them were earned. Rob Yost got the final three outs to earn a save.
