Letter: Route 53 extension horrid for Lake County

The Route 53 extension will be financially devastating to middle class families in Lake County and the working poor.

The "Blue Ribbon Council," whose members were chosen by the "Tollway," and my elected officials, Bartels, Duffy, and Sullivan, Jr, show zero interest in finding out who the "Tollway" is for me, are mainly affluent people who do not live in Lake County.

Add in the absolutely brutal nature of property taxes (they go up when the paper value of your house goes up, and STAY UP after the paper value of your house crashes), and it appears to be a war on the middle class and the working poor by the affluent.

BTW, Bartels, Duffy, and Sullivan, Jr, have to be considered affluent, judging by the houses they live in. Also, my wife and I are DINKs, double income, no kids, and live a very simple lifestyle. The economic brutality really won't affect us. But, I actually give a darn about people less fortunate than me.
